In order for us to carry out a circumcision, we require written consent from those with parental responsibility.
If that’s you, then you will need to fully understand the benefits and risks of the procedure and use that information to make a decision on behalf of your child. There are many reasons why you may choose to go ahead with the operation – our role is to make sure that it is as safe and effective a procedure as possible.
Here are important points to bear in mind:
- We need to see your child’s birth certificate and red book, as well as photographic ID for those with parental responsibility (usually mum and dad).
- Unfortunately, we cannot proceed with the operation if there is disagreement between mother and father.
- If one or both parents are not able to be present on the day, a signed consent letter from them will be required alongside proof of signature.
- Single mothers can consent but must be able to demonstrate full custody and parental rights if they are the sole parent. In the case of single fathers, we will require some form of documentation to confirm that the mother has given consent or that court approval has been granted.
